Overnight home care in Winnipeg
Call 204-798-0490 Free consultation
Overnight senior care in Winnipeg from Friendly Caregiver Seniors Care means a caregiver stays in your loved one’s home through the night, awake or sleeping nearby as your family chooses, there for the bedtime routine and there if they wake: for one night, a run of nights after a hospital stay, or every night, seven days a week. Call 204-798-0490 or contact us. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Nights are often when families worry most: a parent who is steady at noon can be unsteady at 3 a.m.
Awake overnight or sleeping overnight?
Both. You choose with Loreta at the free consultation, based on what your loved one needs at night.
Awake overnight. The caregiver stays awake and alert for the whole night, checks on your loved one through the night, and is already on their feet when someone stirs. This suits a senior who gets up often, is unsteady, or is living with dementia and may be confused or restless in the night.
Sleeping overnight. The caregiver sleeps nearby in the home and gets up whenever your loved one needs help: the bathroom, a drink, reassurance, or a fall. This suits a senior who usually sleeps through but should not be alone.
The start and end of the night are set with you, to match when your parent goes to bed and gets up.
What a night looks like
- Evening. A snack, help getting washed and into nightclothes, a reminder about medication already set out, doors locked.
- Through the night. Help to and from the bathroom, a steady arm, a calm voice for anyone who wakes anxious, and someone already in the house if something goes wrong.
- Morning. Up, dressed, breakfast on the table, and a short handover to the family or the day caregiver about how the night went.
Who overnight care helps
- Seniors who are unsteady or anxious at night
- Families losing sleep listening for a parent down the hall, or across town
- The first nights home after a discharge from HSC, St. Boniface, Grace, Concordia, Seven Oaks or Victoria
- A spouse who has been the night-time caregiver and needs a full night’s sleep
Overnight care with day care and respite
Some families keep their WRHA Home Care hours in the daytime and hire us for the nights the public program does not cover. Others book overnight as respite once or twice a week so the family caregiver can sleep. When the need grows, overnight becomes 24-hour care and daytime personal care from the same team.
“You were especially helpful and understanding last month when my parents needed help at night on very short notice.” Ken Waldhauser
What we do not do overnight
Our care is non-medical. Friendly Caregiver does not employ licensed nurses, so our overnight caregivers do not administer medication, give injections, change dressings, or provide nursing or palliative care.
What it costs
Rates depend on the care plan, including whether the night is awake or sleeping, so we do not publish a price list; you get a quote on the free consultation call, with no obligation. Families approved for Self and Family Managed Care can use that funding for overnight hours, and we provide clear invoices for your SFMC records.
Where we serve
Winnipeg: the senior’s own home, and inside 55+ buildings, assisted living and retirement residences when the building’s staff cannot give one-to-one attention at night.

Frequently asked questions
Do overnight caregivers sleep?
That depends on what you book: we offer both awake and sleeping overnight care, and you choose with Loreta at the free consultation. Either way, someone is in the house all night, covering the hours your WRHA assessment does not.
How fast can overnight care start after a hospital discharge in Winnipeg?
Usually within days of the free consultation, often sooner when a caregiver is available. Ask the discharge planner at HSC, St. Boniface, Grace, Concordia, Seven Oaks or Victoria for the date, then call 204-798-0490; the phone is answered at any hour.
Can we have WRHA Home Care in the day and your caregiver at night?
Yes. The public program’s hours are set by an assessment (intake line 204-788-8330); our overnight care covers the nights your assessed hours do not, runs alongside the WRHA visits, and SFMC funding can pay for it.
What hours does an overnight visit cover?
The hours are set with you to match your parent’s bedtime and morning, so a late Winnipeg winter sunrise after 8 a.m. is no problem.
