Companion care in Winnipeg: visits, shopping, appointments and outings

Call 204-798-0490 Free consultation

Companion care in Winnipeg from Friendly Caregiver Seniors Care means the same friendly caregiver visits your loved one at home for conversation and activities, goes along for shopping and errands, accompanies them to medical appointments, and gets them out for day outings around the city, seven days a week, with a 3-hour minimum per visit. Call 204-798-0490 or contact us. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The owner, Loreta Stukaite, matches each companion to the senior’s interests and temperament, and that same caregiver comes back visit after visit.

What a companionship visit is

At home, a visit is whatever your loved one likes doing with company:

For a senior living with dementia at home, the same caregiver on the same day matters even more.

Medical appointments

Door-through-door support: help getting ready and out the door, the trip there, waiting with your loved one, a second set of ears to note what the doctor said, the pharmacy stop on the way home, and a report back to you.

Shopping and errands

Groceries, the pharmacy, the bank, the post office. The caregiver goes with your loved one rather than instead of them.

“Anything you need to do she will do for you. If you want shopping she will take you shopping.” Eleanor S.

Outings around Winnipeg

An afternoon at Assiniboine Park or the zoo, lunch at a favourite restaurant, a community event, or, in January, a warm walk around St. Vital Centre or Polo Park when the sidewalks are ice. A caregiver on the arm is the difference between four months indoors and staying in the world.

Companion care in a personal care home or retirement residence

Building staff look after the basics for many residents; a one-to-one companion gives one person the conversation and the outings the building cannot.

“Your care worker, Daniel, could not be a better fit for my brother who is still at a level where he benefits from intellectual conversation, interesting outings and companionship.” Don Found

Why the same person matters

The owner, Loreta Stukaite, meets the senior first, asks about their interests and temperament, and matches one caregiver to them; she attends the first visit herself, and that caregiver keeps coming, in some families for years.

“When I first got in touch with Loreta, she interviewed my mother to determine her interests and her temperament so that she could match her with a right companion.” Gary Petsnick

How it pairs with personal care

Many families start with companionship and add personal care from the same caregiver as needs grow; the person at the door does not change.

What we do not offer

Our care is non-medical. Friendly Caregiver does not employ licensed nurses, so our caregivers do not administer medication, give injections, or provide nursing or palliative care. We are not a ride service either: the caregiver stays for the whole visit.

How much does it cost to hire a companion in Winnipeg?

Companion care is billed by the hour with a 3-hour minimum per visit. Rates depend on the care plan, so we do not publish a price list; you get a quote on the free consultation call, with no obligation. Self and Family Managed Care funding can pay for companionship hours, and we provide clear invoices for your SFMC records.

Frequently asked questions

Will the caregiver take my mother to her appointments in Winnipeg?

Yes, door-through-door, including waiting with her and the pharmacy stop afterwards.

Can a companion visit my father in his personal care home?

Yes. We provide one-to-one companion visits and outings inside Winnipeg personal care homes and retirement residences, in addition to the care the building provides.

Does companion care continue through a Winnipeg winter?

Yes, seven days a week, all winter, with no holiday closures. At minus 30 the outing moves indoors, to a mall walk or the kitchen table, and the visit still happens; January is when isolation hits hardest.

Can Self and Family Managed Care pay for companion care?

Yes. Families approved for Self and Family Managed Care can spend that funding with us; how the program works is on our SFMC page.
